Grout Cleaning
I don't know about you, but this Mommy HATES dirty grout. In the past I always cleaned it using chemicals that filled the house with a toxic smell. Which, now, with a 5 month old and a 5 year old, toxic smells aren't really on my list of things I want my children around. So, when I saw on Pinterest a "pin" for a grout cleaner that was chemical free I got all excited :) Then I was talking to my neighbor/friend and she had another recipe for me as well. So I decided to do a "Battle of the Cleaners".
First I need a helper...So I found the cutest helper I could find :)
Here is what my grout looked like thanks to three culprits, 2 dogs and a 5 year old boy.
And here are my two contenders...
In my left corner...Hydrogen Peroxide with a sprinkle of Baking Soda. And in my right corner 2 cups of White Distilled Vinegar, 2 cups Water, and 3 TB of Baking Soda.
A word for the wise. This Mommy had no idea that the vinegar/baking soda mix would bubble up as much as it did. I guess I missed that one in Elementary Science Class :) So make sure you mix it in a container that holds well over 4 cups.
I put each mixture on either side of the tile and rubbed it a little bit with a tooth brush. I am sure my husband won't mind I borrowed his. Just Kidding! :) After Scrubbing for maybe 10 seconds, I wiped the grout dry with a cloth and this is what I saw...
You can be the judge, but I think they both look pretty darn clean :)
Cost wise the hydrogen peroxide was $1.67 for 32 oz and the vinegar was $3.59 for a gallon. I purchased these at CVS so you probably would be able to get them for cheaper at Wal-Mart or Target, but CVS was on my way home from picking up little man from school.
So it is up to you but this "pin" has been tested and approved by this All-American Mommy!
