Like New Breakfast Nook Table Set!
So, I am sure like most stay at home mommies, funds are tight. Especially in today's economy. So what is a girl to do when she gets the itch to spice up her home decor? Head to the Spray Paint aisle at Wal-Mart of course!
Spray paint isn't like it use to be that is for sure. I remember back in the day it would always have this speckled look when I was done. Not anymore!
Lets just say that children spilling things comes with the territory around here. So a chair with a beige cushion seat doesn't last long at all. Especially when my son pretty much learned how to feed himself at this table I am about to show you. I want to also let you know that the chairs are not the ones that came with the table. The table is a garage sale find that I purchased about 6 years ago for about $10 and the chairs came with my husband.
So after about 3 years of them having different finishes and my son ruining them the time has come to make some adjustments on a tight budget.
Unfortunately I had to do this project while my little helpers were asleep. So here is what I did...
I purchased some Krylon Primer in white and some Krylon Spray Paint in Ivory Gloss. (I purchased gloss one for the shine and two for the easy clean up of sticky fingers.)
I also made a little trip to Hobby Lobby with my 20% off coupon for fabric that was already on sale. The fabric was 3/4 of a yard and a pretty sturdy fabric for easy clean up of messes. I plan on Scotch Guarding it as well.
First Step:
Disassemble the cushion from the chair.
Second Step:
Spray Paint Chair with Primer. (I did this in my garage on a somewhat breezy day. The breeze outside helped ventilate, but the garage gave me a controlled atmosphere so the painted sprayed evenly.)
P.S. Wear a mask!
Third Step:
Spray Paint with ideal color. If you prime one coat is all you will need. (See step two)
Fourth Step:
Take chair cushion and trace out on back of fabric. Cut fabric with some extra on the sides so that you can easily wrap the fabric over the cushion.
Staple the fabric to the bottom of the cushion board. Staple all four sides first pulling taut and not stapling the corners.
To staple the corners pull the center of the fabric down taut and staple. Then fold the excess fabric from corners over. This works best especially for those rounded corners.
Fifth Step:
Reassemble!
Here is the before and after :)
Pretty amazing if you ask me! Plus look at those floors...man that grout is clean :) (See previous post to find out how to clean your grout with no chemicals)
Hope this inspired someone out there to do a re-do :) Happy Decorating Everyone!
